Proclamation thanking Healthy Start for sponsoring the "Working with Diverse Populations Symposium" and for bringing attention to behavioral health issues that affect multicultural populations.
Body
WHEREAS, Healthy Start, Incorporated, is dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for infants, toddlers, elementary school-age children, siblings, parents and grandparents throughout southwestern Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the organization's primary focus is to reduce the incidence of infant mortality and low birth weight babies across southwestern Pennsylvania, thereby improving the chances that these babies will develop into healthy, productive adults; and
WHEREAS, since 1991, Healthy Start has been providing a variety of programs and services which benefit participants, and which have resulted in a decrease in the infant mortality rate. In addition, their outreach staff distributed critical healthcare information to approximately 12,800 families during community canvassing efforts; and
WHEREAS, on May 22 and 23, 2006 at The Omni William Penn, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Healthy Start, Inc. will host a “Working with Diverse Populations Symposium” designed to increase the level of cultural sensitivity and competency in compelling mental health topics specific to multicultural populations; and
WHEREAS, Healthy Start programs have benefited thousands of women, infants and men, helping them achieve a healthier lifestyle;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends the efforts of Healthy Start which has made a remarkable impact on our community. We thank Healthy Start for sponsoring the “Working with Diverse Populations Symposium” and for bringing attention to behavioral health issues that affect multicultural populations.
