Proclamation recognizing the 10th Annual Jazz on the Hillside concert, a fundraiser event for the Schenley Heights Community Development Program and declaring June 27, 2014 to be "Jazz on the Hillside Day" in Allegheny County.

      WHEREAS, the 10th Annual Jazz on the Hillside concert, a fundraiser event for the Schenley Heights Community Development Program, will take place on Friday, June 27, 2014 in the historic Schenley Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh's Hill District, featuring music from nationally renowned Jazz Artists: Al Dowe and Etta Cox, The Roger Barbour Quartet  and The Tubby Daniels Quartet; and
 
WHEREAS, the mission of Schenley Heights Community Development Program is to nurture, support and develop our community through wholesome programs that address the academic, moral, cultural, health, and recreational needs of our children, youth and their families in the Hill District and Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, since 1990, the Schenely Heights Community Development Program has provided alternatives to socially destructive activities that too often plague inner city, low-income communities; and
 
WHEREAS, the Annual Jazz on the Hillside event is a local staple of the Hill District and the City of Pittsburgh that has provided the best in jazz entertainment every year since its inception, as proceeds assist in maintaining the SHCDP programs; and
 
WHEREAS, the 10th Annual Jazz on the Hillside is made possible by the support of local organizations such as Dollar Bank, Highmark, Peoples Natural Gas, UPMC, Billy Strayhorn Songs, Inc. and Dr. Carolyn G. Davis; and
 
WHEREAS, Jazz on the Hillside continues to acknowledge the musical legacy of Pittsburgh and Hill District Jazz musicians of the past and present;   
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County does hereby declare June 27, 2014 to be "Jazz on the Hillside Day" in  Allegheny County.
