Proclamation congratulating Angels' Place, Inc. upon the occasion of their 30th anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 1984, Ms. Mary Gibson Winter opened an affiliate of Mom's House in a temporary location in the Brookline Boulevard Presbyterian Church to provide full-time student, single parents with a comprehensive program of free services, including child care, tutoring, support groups, counseling, nutrition, child safety and life skills; and
 
WHEREAS, in 1986, Ms. Winter found a permanent home on Fordham Avenue in Brookline for the first center; a second center was opened in a school on Woodstock Avenue in Swissvale in 1989, and as a result of a successful 21st Century Capital Campaign, a third center opened on Pittsburgh's North Side in 1997; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2003, the organization established independence from the national Mom's House system, changing the name to Angels' Place, Inc., and in 2008, Ms. Winter retired and was appointed Director Emeritus of the Board of Directors; and
 
WHEREAS, within the next five years, all three child care centers attained accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); and
 
WHEREAS, Angels' Place has become a Standards of Excellence Accredited organization by the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations by meeting benchmarks established to measure management and ethical accountability;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Angels' Place, Inc. upon the occasion of its 30th Anniversary, and we thank the dedicated staff and volunteers that have helped encourage and guide hundreds of student parents to grow into educated, self-sufficient, and responsible citizens, contributing to the progress of our community and region.
