WHEREAS, Allegheny County has set a precedent of cultural excellence in our country by nurturing museums and libraries into superior intellectual entities; and
WHEREAS, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh is one of our area's most influential destinations for children, and as such, it received the 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library Service - the highest honor from the Institute of Museum and Library Service; and
WHEREAS, since it was established in 1983, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh has provided innovative programs that have engaged the children of our region and promoted creative thinking, problem solving and educational values; and
WHEREAS, the museum is a redevelopment leader in Allegheny County, and it partners often with nonprofit organizations to revitalize Pittsburgh's North Side; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding community service displayed by the museum has improved the lives of countless children and families, and its innovative exhibits and attention to service place the museum at the forefront of education in our nation;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, recognizes the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh for receiving the 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. The museum has personified an unparalleled commitment to community service that has become paramount in Allegheny County, and we hope it continues to thrive in the future.
