Proclamation congratulating the Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of its 90th anniversary.

WHEREAS, founded in 1924, the Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Station 255, located at 161 Vanadium Road, is dedicated to the preservation of life and the protection of property in the Southern portion of Scott Township, and when called upon, in surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, in its 90-year history, Bower Hill VFD has owned 25 firefighting and emergency vehicles, and co-owned seven ambulances with Glendale Hose Company No. 1. Today, the department operates three Engines, one Squad, and one Command vehicle, and with Glendale, supplies four jointly-owned ambulances to Scott Township EMS; and
WHEREAS, over the years, at least 400 men and women have served as members of the Bower Hill VFD; currently, the department has about 30 firefighters and 60 supporting members; the department also has 36 life members, individuals who have served Bower Hill for twenty consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, the Bower Hill VFD promotes social fellowship and good will among the members of the department, and they strive to promote and preserve the safety, affordability and desirability of their community as a comfortable and pleasant place to live and work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the Bower Hill Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of its 90th anniversary. We recognize and commend the Bower Hill VFD for their unwavering dedication to safety and rescue, and we thank them for the watchful protection and service they provide to the residents of Scott Township.
