Proclamation celebrating the retirement of Mr. Roger Babusci after 40 years of teaching English, poetry and drama and serving as Director of Musical Theatre at Schenley High School.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have individuals, such as Mr. Roger Babusci, who are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; and

 

WHEREAS, after 40 years, Mr. Babusci, affectionately known as “Mr. B”, activities director and teacher of English, poetry and drama, will retire from the director's chair of Schenley High School after his last show of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on May 6, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Babusci has garnered 74 nominations and won 30 Gene Kelly Awards, which honor the best in high school musical theater; and

 

  WHEREAS, in 1972, he produced a comedy for Schenley High School called “Five on the Blackhand Side.”  His first musical production was “Purlie,” and since then, he has amassed great knowledge and expertise about teenagers, lighting, sound, choreography and costumes.  In 1982, Schenley's cast presented “Ain't Misbehavin'” at the governor's mansion when Mr. Babusci was named Pennsylvania's Teacher of the Year; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Babusci has launched many students into professional careers in theater and dance.  The students that have worked for “Mr. B” hold the utmost respect for his teaching ability and have expressed joy for having been a “part of the magic”;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby congratulates Mr. Roger Babusci upon the occasion of his retirement and commends him for his unparalleled dedication and commitment in serving the youth of our County.  This Council wishes him all the best on his well-deserved retirement and joins his students, family and friends in celebrating this momentous occasion with him.
