Proclamation recognizing and thanking Mr. John L. Kovach, Jr. for his lifelong achievements and public service.

WHEREAS, Mr. John L. Kovach, Jr. voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Bethel Park High School and went on to serve 22 years for the Marines and the Army National Guard, during which time he served in Guam, Panama, Cuba and the United States; and

WHEREAS, he retired from the Army National Guard in August 1993 after having attained the rank of Sergeant First Class; and

WHEREAS, he is the recipient of numerous awards including two Rifle Badges, one as a Marine Corps Rifle Expert M-14, and the other as an Army M-16 Rifle Expert, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star for service during two wartime periods, including Vietnam and Desert Storm, and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kovach, a long-time resident of Bethel Park, has worked for the Bethel Park School District for more than 30 years as the Head Custodian at Memorial Elementary School. He is a member of Bethel Park American Legion Memorial Post No. 760 and has coordinated the Bethel Park Memorial Day Cemetery Service for the past two years. Mr. Kovach is the founder of the Annual Veterans Day Solemn Ceremony, now entering its eighth year and is co-creator of the By the Dawn's Early Light Flag Retirement Plaza in South Park;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the lifelong achievements and public service of Mr. John L. Kovach, Jr. The high standards you have set deserve the accolades of the citizenry of this great County of Allegheny. Your commitment and effort is truly worthy of Council's highest commendation, and we bestow our sincerest thanks to you for your...
