Proclamation recognizing Giant Eagle, Incorporated for their environmentally conscious business practices.
Body
WHEREAS, our county has been home to some of our nation's most successful corporations, which progress into the future by promoting an environmentally conscious attitude; and
WHEREAS, Giant Eagle, Incorporated has been an Allegheny County Health Department Energy Star partner since 2001, and this year the company received recognition for their 2007 initiatives to remove their impact on the county's environment; and
WHEREAS, Giant Eagle was acknowledged for updating and renovating stores into energy efficient entities and for their encouragement of customers to recycle through plastic bag drop-off sites; and
WHEREAS, through this program, the company reported a savings of approximately 309 tons of plastic waste; and
WHEREAS, Giant Eagle's efforts help lead our county into a future of environmental sustainability and responsibility;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends Giant Eagle, Incorporated for its proactive actions toward pollution prevention. Furthermore, we hope others will follow their examples to lead our county into a sustainable future.
