Proclamation commending the organizers and volunteers of the 2008 Presents for Patients campaign.
Body
WHEREAS, Presents for Patients, a program operated by St. Barnabas Charities, brightens the holidays for patients in facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1984 by then-president of St. Barnabas Health System William V. Day, Presents for Patients provides nursing home, assisted living, and personal care residents with both a holiday gift and a visitor; and
WHEREAS, already in its 25th season, Presents for Patients has provided more than 300,000 gift and visits; and
WHEREAS, the program has been recognized and honored by local and national civic organizations and even received President Ronald Reagan's Citation in 1988; and
WHEREAS, the 2008 campaign will kickoff with a celebration at the Channel 11 NBC Studios and will aim to match an astounding 26,450 nursing home, assisted living and personal care residents from 305 facilities throughout five states with a visitor and a gift;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends the organizers and participants in the Presents for Patients program. We wish you the best of luck as you launch your 2008 campaign and we wholeheartedly thank you for your commitment to brightening the holidays for those in need.
