Proclamation recognizing the 35th anniversary of the Clairton Area Chapter 1612, American Association of Retired Persons.

Body

WHEREAS, the Clairton Area Chapter 1612 of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) was incorporated on December 6, 1973; and

WHEREAS, by 1988 there were over 600 members, with many individuals placed on a waiting list, so the National AARP recommended that the chapter be split; and

WHEREAS, in spite of that split, Clairton Area Chapter 1612 AARP continues to maintain over 600 members and continued growth for the chapter is an ongoing goal; and

WHEREAS, the organization remains steadfastly committed to AARP's philosophy “To Serve, Not Be Served”;  

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the continued good works of the Clairton Area Chapter 1612 of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and we join in celebrating the organization's 35^th anniversary.  Furthermore, we thank the officers, directors and members for their dedication and commitment to serving the community, and for leaving a rich legacy for those who will follow.
