Proclamation congratulating Mayor Donald J. Baumgarten for being named the 2014 Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year by the Pennsylvania State Mayors' Association.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Donald J. Baumgarten was named " 2014 Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year" by the Pennsylvania State Mayors' Association, topping 1,000 of his colleagues from across the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, born and raised in Castle Shannon, Mayor Baumgarten has served as the Mayor of Castle Shannon Borough since 2001; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Baumgarten was borough auditor from 1970-1974, served on council from 1974-1982 and was council president from 1982-1993; and
WHEREAS, under Mayor Baumgarten's leadership, the Castle Shannon Borough has experienced tremendous economic growth through the completion of the Grove Road Bridge project and finalizing plans for the Shannon Transit Village, a $42 million retail and residential project; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Baumgarten has served the wider community in a number of capacities including being the co-founder and a board member of Medical Rescue Team South EMS Authority since 1975; as an Executive Board member of the Pennsylvania State Mayors' Association and the Allegheny County Mayors' Association; and as a member of Mayors against Illegal Guns;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mayor Donald J. Baumgarten for being named the 2014 Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year.  Your outstanding accomplishments and leadership has set a high standard of commitment and dedication to the community and serves as an inspiration to the residents of Castle Shannon Borough, Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
