body

WHEREAS, the week of April 12 - April 18, 2004 has been designated as National Community Development Week, and since its creation in 1974, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania has been a participant in the Community Development Block Grant Program which funds a myriad of social services, economic development, and housing programs in this community; and

                     WHEREAS, over the past thirty years, Allegheny County through the Community Development Block Grant Program funding has developed a strong network of relationships between local governments, residents, and the many non-profit agencies that provide services and help make possible the County's commitment to those neighborhoods; and

                     WHEREAS, Allegheny County recognizes that the Community Development Block Grant Program has been the single revenue resource available that provides funding for those programs and projects that assist lower income residents;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that during National Community Development Week 2004, Allegheny County Council will give special thanks and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhood and their low and moderate income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant Program; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby petitions the U.S. Congress and Administration to recognize the outstanding work being done locally and nationally by the Community Development Block Grant Program, and of its vital importance to the community and to people who live in its lower income neighborhoods.
