Proclamation thanking the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania and declaring Saturday, December 12, 2015 to be “Pittsburgh Polar Plunge Day” in Allegheny County.

 

Body...

 

WHEREAS, Special Olympics is the world’s leading voice in elevating awareness of the needs and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities; and

 

WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 12, 2015, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania will host its annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge at Heinz Field on Pittsburgh’s North Shore; and

 

WHEREAS, Special Olympics Pennsylvania provides Olympic type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities where they can develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community; and

 

WHEREAS, more than 2,000 people are expected to plunge into the chilly Ohio River to raise funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania, including hundreds of law enforcement officers from local, state and federal agencies;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby declare Saturday, December 12, 2015 to be “Pittsburgh Polar Plunge Day” in Allegheny County, and we thank the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania for raising funds and awareness for the Special Olympics movement.
