Proclamation honoring the Greenfield Baseball Association and declaring Hammer Field an integral part of the organization.

WHEREAS, grassroots sporting organizations originate in local communities to allow children to enter the enjoyable arena of competitive sport; and
WHEREAS, the Greenfield Baseball Association has enhanced the spirit of the youth of the Greenfield community since 1951 by offering them the opportunity to participate in one of our nation's most cherished past times; and
WHEREAS, throughout its impressive history, the baseball association has granted the youth of the community a safe and fun opportunity that they will remember for their entire lives; and
WHEREAS, countless amounts of children over the course of many generations have played at Hammer Field, undoubtedly mirroring on the field their favorite Pittsburgh Pirates that they grew up watching and idolizing; and
WHEREAS, the baseball association brought the Greenfield community together at Hammer Field after it was constructed in 1961, and it has since given the youth of the community a platform to learn the foundations of teamwork and determination that they may draw on throughout their lives;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends the Greenfield Baseball Association for giving children the opportunity to play one of our country's greatest sports. Furthermore, we applaud the association for strengthening the community and for allowing children to expand their characters. We hope the league continues to flourish at Hammer Field in the tradition of its great history.
