An Ordinance authorizing the County of Allegheny in conjunction with the Department of Public Works and the Law Department to rename Youghiogheny River Bridge No. 1 (Sutersville Bridge), which is located within Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County and Sutersville Borough, Westmoreland County.

Whereas, Allegheny County and Westmoreland County currently co-own and maintain Youghiogheny River Bridge No. 1 (Sutersville Bridge); and
Whereas, Sutersville Borough resident and Army veteran Mark Ghion has requested that local elected officials rename the Youghiogheny River Bridge No. 1 (Sutersville Bridge) as a memorial to area servicemembers killed in action while serving in the United States Armed Forces; and
Whereas, more than 30 servicemembers from Elizabeth Township and Sutersville Borough have been killed in action in active duty; and
Whereas, the renaming of Youghiogheny River Bridge No. 1 (Sutersville Bridge) as the Sons of Sutersville and Elizabeth Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge would honor those servicemembers for making the ultimate sacrifice in support and defense of our nation; and
Whereas, such renaming constitutes a valid public purpose serving the interests of the residents of Allegheny County.
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby enacts as follows:
SECTION 1. Incorporation of the Preamble.
The provisions set forth in the preamble to this Ordinance are incorporated by reference as set forth in their entirety herein.
SECTION 2. Authorization to Rename Bridges and Enroll Same in the Records of Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
That Council deems it advisable and necessary to rename the Youghiogheny River Bridge No. 1 (Sutersville Bridge) as the Sons of Sutersville and Elizabeth Fallen Heroes Memorial Bridge.
