Proclamation recognizing and commending Medrad, Inc. upon receiving the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods and the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Medrad, Inc. is a worldwide leading provider of medical devices and services that enable and enhance imaging procedures of the human body. Used in diagnostic imaging, Medrad's product offerings include a comprehensive line of vascular injection systems, magnetic resonance (MR) surface coils and accessory products, and equipment services; and
WHEREAS, As hundreds of Medrad employees watched live via satellite in Pittsburgh and around the world, Medrad President and CEO John P. Friel accepted the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award <http://www.medrad.com/about-medrad/mbnqa/index.html> (MBNQA) from President George W. Bush and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans on March 9, 2004 at a ceremony in Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, The MBNQA is the top honor a U.S. company can achieve for quality and business excellence. Established in 1987, it is named after the former Secretary of Commerce to recognize exemplary achievements in seven areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resource focus, process management and results; and
WHEREAS, Medrad, Inc. was one of seven organizations to receive the award this year, and the only recipient in the Manufacturing category;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council is honored to recognize Medrad, Inc. upon its receipt of the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the manufacturing category. This achievement has conferred honor upon the County to be shared by each of us.
