Proclamation recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Borough of Springdale and joining in the celebration scheduled for July 3-8, 2006.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Borough of Springdale, founded on October 17, 1906, after separating from Springdale Township will celebrate its 100th anniversary beginning July 1, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, in this, the 100th anniversary, we look forward to the Borough of Springdale's continued growth, and urge the people of our great County to remember the courage and hard labor of the many Americans, such as the people of Springdale Borough, who through the years built our factories, schools, churches and small towns; and

 

                     WHEREAS, today, the borough has approximately 3,800 residents within 0.99 square miles, and regarded as the “Power City,” Springdale Borough is home to a number of long-standing businesses, including Reliant Energy, Allegheny Power, PPG Industries and R.I. Lampus Block; and                                                                                                                                                   

 

WHEREAS, Springdale Borough will celebrate its centennial anniversary through a variety of exciting events and activities during the week of July 1 - 8, 2006, beginning with a Dinner Dance followed by the Fireman's Jubilee.  The celebration will include 11 floats, marching bands, a centennial book, a door decorating contest, an ice cream social hosted by the Rachel Carson Homestead, a luncheon for people age 85 and over, a car cruise, and a student art contest that resulted in the adoption of a Springdale Borough Coat of Arms;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and honor the Borough of Springdale on the occasion of its 100th anniversary and does hereby wish all residents of the Borough of Springdale continued success and lifelong happiness.
