Proclamation welcoming the members of the Cawthon family to Pittsburgh as they celebrate their 17th biannual family reunion.

WHEREAS, on July 10-13, 2008, the Cawthon family will celebrate their 17th biannual family reunion since 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Cawthon Family traces their roots back to early 1900s Baptist preacher Robert Walter Cawthon. Originally from Milledgeville, Georgia, Mr. Cawthon distinguished himself as the first licensed African-American plumber in the state of Georgia; and
WHEREAS, this year, the celebration will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the hometown of former steelworker and current Carnegie Mellon University security guard Robert Walter Cawthon, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, during the weekend, 80-100 family members will gather to share stories, celebrate achievements, award scholarships, enjoy each other's company while experiencing all that Pittsburgh has to offer, and perhaps most importantly, reinforce a sense of pride and family unity in their children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby welcome the members of the Cawthon family to Pittsburgh. As we celebrate Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, we are honored to share the heart of Allegheny County with your family.
