Proclamation recognizing The Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health for the outstanding success of their recent "Let Them Eat Cake" fundraiser.

WHEREAS, since 1982, The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health has cared for thousands of women and their families in Southwestern Pennsylvania and has assisted in the birth of more than 3, 000 babies; and

 

                     WHEREAS, The Midwife Center offers a multitude of services, including reproductive health examinations, referrals, family planning, pre-conceptual counseling and testing, community education, and birthing support that includes not only prenatal and childbirth care, but also post-partum home visits by Certified Registered Nurses; and

 

                     WHEREAS, on April 5, 2008, The Midwife Center held its 3rd annual “Let Them Eat Cake” cake decorating contest and cake tasting party at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, located on Pittsburgh's North Side; and

                     

WHEREAS, the contest, which also served as a fundraiser for The Midwife Center, was divided into several categories, including a birthday-themed category, in honor of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary and the Children's Museum's 25th anniversary; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to the cake decorating and tasting, the event included a Barefoot Cellars wine tasting, a silent auction and music by Sugar Daddy and the Big Boned Girls; and

 

WHEREAS, more than 250 local supporters attended the event, raising an astounding total of $11,000, which will be used by The Midwife Center to help provide prenatal and gynecological care for uninsured and underinsured women;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council congratulates The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health on the success of your 2008 +“Let Them Eat Cake” fundraiser.  Furthermore, we commend you for your commitment to providing the women of our region with safe and reliable health care options.
