Proclamation celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Braddock and recognizing the hospital's dedication to serving the community.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have organizations, such as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Braddock, that prides itself on providing quality care to patients; and
WHEREAS, UPMC Braddock, formerly Braddock Medical Center, established in 1906, serves the residents of Monongahela, the Borough of Braddock and the Borough of Turtle Creek, and on June 26-27, 2006 UPMC Braddock will celebrate its 100th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, UPMC Braddock is a state-of-the-art medical facility accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, providing services in general medical care, behavioral health services, medical/surgical intensive care, geriatric psychiatry, laser surgery, as well as offering a variety of community education programs; and
WHEREAS, on June 27, 2006 a community open house called “UPMC Braddock: Then & Now” will highlight the hospital's proud history and bright future, with displays of photos and memorabilia, refreshments, games and prizes. In addition, Dr. Morry Shapiro will be recognized for his 61 years of dedicated service to the hospital and the community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby join in celebrating “UPMC Braddock: Then & Now” upon the occasion of its 100th Anniversary. Furthermore, this Council recognizes the hospital for its dedication to serving the community, acting as an inspiration to this Council and the residents of Allegheny County.
