Proclamation thanking Athletic Trauma Unit and declaring the month of January 2022 to be Christopher “Steel” Edmonds Month in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the Athletic Trauma Unit (#ATU) is a regional advocate for Allegheny County's community health; and
WHEREAS, their mission is to promote physical movement and healthy lifestyle for all. #ATU believes that once a body is in motion it stays in motion; therefore, it provides free workouts, free meal plans, free meals, and additional support to families as needed; and
WHEREAS, #ATU has bettered health conditions of individuals and improves the quality of life by providing free community health focused services; and
WHEREAS, former NFL player Christopher “Steel” Edmonds recognized the obstacles low-income communities face in living a healthier lifestyle. Mr. Edmonds founded #ATU in hopes of removing financial barriers to health and fitness; and
WHEREAS, #ATU provides family-oriented exercise classes, fitness training, and nutritional coaching at no cost. To continue fighting obesity in underserved areas, #ATU provides residents a healthy alternative to fast-food; and
WHEREAS, #ATU is dedicated to working with the residents of Allegheny County to make our county a better and healthier place for all;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Allegheny County Council Member Olivia Bennett, do hereby recognize and thank Athletic Trauma Unit, and we honor Christopher “Steel” Edmonds for his dedication to making health and fitness more accessible. Also, this council declares January 2022 to be Christopher “Steel” Edmonds Month in Allegheny County.
