Allegheny County Council is honored to present this Certificate of Achievement to Ms. Alyssa Cairns for being named the 2014 Daily News Girls' Athlete of the Year. Ms. Cairns has excelled in basketball and softball at West Mifflin High School. Ms. Cairns averaged 8.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.5 assists in basketball. In softball, she batted .530 with a slugging percentage of .848 and produced 16 extra-base hits, 28 RBIs and 19 runs. Her strong presence on the court and field and in the classroom, where she carried a 4.0 grade-point average, led to her selection as the 2014 Daily News Girls' Athlete of the Year. Ms. Cairn's contribution to Allegheny County's long legacy of sports champions is to be commended. On behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, we join with you in celebration of your distinguished achievements and congratulate you for being named the 2014 Daily News Girls' Athlete of the Year.
