Proclamation honoring Ms. Eleanor Ott for receiving the Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University.

WHEREAS, extraordinary students and brilliant scholars who attend universities within Allegheny County bestow our region with an unprecedented reputation for educational excellence and intellectual progress; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Eleanor Ott, alumna of the University of Pittsburgh, was chosen in November 2009 to receive a Rhodes scholarship - one of the most prestigious academic awards in the world - to study at the University of Oxford in England; and
WHEREAS, as a student, Ms. Ott volunteered to assist Congolese refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo; her undergraduate work prepared her for her current professional career: serving as a social science research analyst in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Ott has dedicated her studies to researching methods to change government policy on international refugees; she was selected for the scholarship because of the potential, ambition, energy, wit, enthusiasm and academic excellence that she has displayed while pursuing her goals; and
WHEREAS, we proudly commend and praise the talent, academic excellence and professional success that Ms. Ott has exuded in pursuing her goals; her outstanding achievements have reflected positively upon this County and have added immensely to the educational reputation we have inherited from our scholars;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, congratulates Ms. Eleanor Ott for receiving a Rhodes scholarship from the University of Oxford. We hope this incredible accomplishment - one in an already impressive array of successes - allows her to achieve her goals and dreams. We take pride in her efforts to better our world, and we wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors.
