Proclamation recognizing and commending Judy Burton for her commitment and dedication to the citizens of her community.

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County has been fortunate to be the home to individuals who take great pride in enhancing their communities, and who willingly do so by assisting their fellow citizens when they may be in need; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Judy Burton has become just such an individual since moving to the City of Duquesne on August 10, 1980; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Burton has taken the education she gained at Lower Merion High School and Villanova University, together with her lifetime of experience, and invested it in her community and her neighbors by counseling battered women and children for the last 19 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Burton has devoted considerable time and effort to other public service endeavors both as a member of the Duquesne School Board and as the Secretary of the Mon Valley Peoples Action Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Burton continues to direct her efforts to community development in Duquesne by working towards the construction of a Community Center that will provide residents with access to swimming, basketball and library and computer facilities;

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Ms. Judy Burton for her impact on this community and its citizens.  Ms. Burton's commitment serves as an inspiration to us all, and her consistent devotion to the dignity and safety of her fellow residents is worthy of our sincerest thanks.
