Proclamation recognizing The Second Baptist Church of Carnegie, which recently celebrated its 120th anniversary.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Second Baptist Church of Carnegie, Pennsylvania was founded in 1887, and continues to proudly stand by its motto, “We are a people of excellence that are affecting and impacting people's lives.  We will build on God's word.”; and

                     

                     WHEREAS, since 2006, Pastor E. LaRue Davis has served as Second Baptist's first female pastor, a groundbreaking step towards improving gender equality in the Church; and

 

                     WHEREAS, under the current leadership of Pastor Davis, the Associate Ministers, the Deacons, the Deaconesses, and the Church Board of Officers, the Second Baptist Church has flourished into a sanctuary for the faith-seeking citizens of Carnegie; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Second Baptist Church has implemented a number of life-changing ministries, including evangelical outreach in the community, marriage counseling, classes for newly converted members, and separate ministries for singles, youth, and “tots”; and

 

WHEREAS, on November 18, 2007, the Second Baptist Church celebrated its 120th anniversary by inviting guest speakers Pastor Beryle Whiten of Spiritual Growth of Cleveland and Pastor Melvin Wilson of St. John Baptist of Lawrence, Pennsylvania to join in the day's services;

 

                     

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council congratulates the Second Baptist Church on its 120th anniversary.  We thank you for your dedication to serving the Carnegie community through your worship and wish you many more years of success.
