WHEREAS, on this day each year, we gather with family and friends to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence; and
WHEREAS, with vision and courage, our Founders stated unequivocally to the world: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness;" and
WHEREAS, we are bound as one people by our adherence to common ideals: individual equality, constitutional liberty, and the rule of law; and
WHEREAS, the truths set down in our Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 are immutable, and they continue to light our path into the challenges and possibilities of the future; and
WHEREAS, on this day we pay tribute to those who, 238 years ago, pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to guarantee our freedom; and
WHEREAS, on July 4, 2014, at the Ben Avon Borough Hall, remarks by renowned author and philosopher Michael Novak will precede Council President Earl Bohn's reading of the Declaration of Independence;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the residents of Ben Avon Borough for celebrating Independence Day by finding inspiration in the sacrifices of our forebears.
