Proclamation recognizing the Borough of Whitehall Councilman Mr. Philip J. Lahr for his excellence in public service, his artistic achievement and for his significant contributions to the arts in our Community.
Body
WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have individuals, such as Mr. Philip J. Lahr, that enrich the community through public service and artistry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lahr served one term in the early 1980's and is now serving his second consecutive four-year term on the Borough of Whitehall Council; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Lahr retired after a career in graphics design and printing and in 2002, he started painting again after a quarter-century away from the brushes; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lahr, an accomplished artist whose works are displayed in the town hall and library, dedicated his latest work, his third piece with a patriotic theme which took six weeks to create, to state Representative Harry Readshaw; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Representative Readshaw organized the annual Civil War Preservation Ball held in the Capitol rotunda as a fundraiser for restoration of Gettysburg monuments. Civil War re-enactors and musicians with period music perform, while the invited public dress in period attire; and
WHEREAS, in March 2007, Mr. Lahr's work, a 30-inch by 40-inch acrylic on canvas depicting the United States flag rippling in the wind with three Union soldiers detailed in the painting's lower right corner, will be displayed in the state Capitol rotunda at the annual Civil War Preservation Ball. Mr. Lahr and his wife, Barbara Baker Lahr, plan to attend and anticipate great excitement when Representative Readshaw will raffle off the work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize and honor Mr. Philip J. Lahr for his excellence in public service, his artistic achievement and for significant contributions to the arts in our community. This Council is grateful for your patriotic artwork which...
