Proclamation honoring Urban Youth Action's 43rd Anniversary Banquet.

WHEREAS, on June 3, 2009, Urban Youth Action, Incorporated (UYA) will celebrate its 43rd Annual Banquet, themed “A Celebration of Hope: 43 Years of Inspiring Young People”; and
WHEREAS, UYA, founded in 1966 by the late Mr. Bernard H. Jones, Sr., was developed in order to provide a place for youth to foster their potential and become assets to their families and communities; and
WEHREAS, the organization should be commended by all in our County for holding a steadfast commitment to their mission and to their dedication to the youth of our community; and
WHEREAS, UYA's current initiatives include an after-school program, where students learn the essentials of the job search process, explore business ownership, absorb life-skills information; the program connects students with internships, tutoring, and college tours. Additional initiatives include a school-based program that provides students with life-skills education, career awareness exploration, and violence prevention education, and an outreach program that includes activities such as the Charles Drew Science Fair and the Youth Business Symposium;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council congratulates Urban Youth Action, Incorporated as it embarks on their 43rd Annual Banquet. Furthermore, we commend you for your commitment to providing area youth with the tools to become confident and responsible members of our society.
