Proclamation naming September 29, 2014 the ATHENA & Young Professional Awards Day in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, taking its name from the Greek goddess of strength and wisdom, the Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Awards event is one of the largest annual gatherings among the hundreds of ATHENA International-affiliated events presented around the world; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Award recognizes exceptional women who demonstrate excellence in their profession, contribute to their community and help other women to succeed through mentorship. The ATHENA Young Professional Award recognizes an emerging leader age 35 or younger; and
WHEREAS, the ATHENA Award's focus on mentorship distinguishes it from other awards recognizing women in business; By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Award Program inspires others to achieve personal and professional excellence; and
WHEREAS, the five ATHENA finalists include Linda Croushore, Executive Director, The Consortium for Public Education, Diane Holder, Executive Vice President, UPMC, President, UPMC Insurance Services Division, President & CEO, UPMC Health Plan, Susan Kirsch, Shareholder, Tax Advisory Services, Schneider Downs, Karen Larrimer, Chief Customer Officer and Chief Marketing Officer, PNC, and Suzy Teele, Chief Operating Officer, SnapRetail; and
WHEREAS, the three ATHENA Young Professional finalists include Stephanie Garbe, Compliance Senior Specialist, PNC, Amelia Papapetropoulos, Sales Manager, Lightning Energy Services, and Sabrina Saunders, Executive Director, Strong Women Strong Girls;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate the finalists and hereby name September 29, 2014 as the "2014 ATHENA Award & ATHENA Young Professional Award Day" in Allegheny County.
