Proclamation declaring December 29, 2020 to be Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents Day in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, in November 2004, Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents founder, Sue Kerr gained local attention for her appearances on talk radio programs. Over the course of a year, Sue Kerr became known as Pittsburgh’s “unofficial lesbian correspondent”; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to promoting Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ community - specifically focusing on media coverage and the letters to the editor, the Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents was created in December 2005; and
WHEREAS, as time passed, Sue Kerr realized that writing about the lesbian experience was unique and joined the ranks of political bloggers; and
WHEREAS, since 2005, Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents has been dedicated to covering the LGBTQ scene in Pittsburgh and surrounding regions; and
WHEREAS, over its fifteen-year history, Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents has utilized social media and blogs to tell the untold stories and issues unaddressed of the LGBTQ community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Olivia Bennett, do hereby declare December 29, 2020 to be Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents Day in Allegheny County. We thank them for their dedication to the LGBTQ community and their efforts to make Allegheny County a more welcoming place.
