Proclamation honoring the 140th anniversary of Chatham University.
Body
WHEREAS, the long-tenured universities of Allegheny County provide our region with excellent institutions that are recognized nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Chatham University has grown from a small female college to a well-established educational beacon, and on December 11, 2009, the university celebrates its 140th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the university focuses on women's leadership, sustainability and the environment, and global and intercultural education; it prepares students to lead and to excel in their professions on a global scale; and
WHEREAS, the university has experienced an unprecedented growth under Dr. Esther L. Barazzone, the institute's 16th president; Dr. Barazzone has added graduate programs to the curriculum, constructed new buildings, enlarged the university's endowment and increased annual funding; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Dr. Barazzone's leadership helped Chatham receive university status from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the university continued to grow in 2008, adding Eden Hall Farm as a new campus site to accompany its historic Shadyside campus;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, does hereby recognize and honor Chatham University upon the monumental occasion of its 140th anniversary. We look upon this milestone with great pride, and we hope the university continues to grow and add to our region's reputation as an educational leader.
