Proclamation recognizing the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality as they embark on their 2008 National Conference and Career Fair.

WHEREAS, since its 1989 founding at Cornell University, the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) has distinguished itself as a student-run nonprofit professional organization dedicated to establishing working relationships between the hospitality industry and minority students; and
WHEREAS, acting under the mission to “educate in order to aid in the recruitment, retention, support, and advancement of minority students in the hospitality industry,” the socially and culturally diverse membership of the NSMH encourages unique perspectives and ideas, providing the hospitality industry with an awareness of the benefits gained from a diverse workforce; and
WHEREAS, most recently, the NSMH launched H.I.P.E. (Hospitality Industry Professionals Extension), an initiative serving NSMH alumni and industry professionals with the goal of promoting a lifelong commitment to the organization through networking opportunities at regional and national NSMH conferences; and
WHEREAS, on February 21-24, 2008, NSMH will hold its 19th annual National Conference and Career Fair, to be held at the Westin Convention Center and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh and which will include a Pre-Conference Outreach Event at Schenley High School, several workshops, a career fair and an awards gala; and
WHEREAS, the theme of this year's conference is “Mission Possible,” a symbol and representation of the progression and achievements that NSMH has already made within the hospitality industry and of those toward which they continue to strive;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize the members of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality as they embark on their 2008 National Conference and Career Fair. We thank you for your continued com...
