Proclamation congratulating Emsworth Borough as it celebrates 125 years since its incorporation.

WHEREAS, Emsworth Borough in Allegheny County is celebrating 125 years of their incorporation on July 14, 1896; and
WHEREAS, located just a few miles north of the City of Pittsburgh, Emsworth Borough is located on land that was originally purchased by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from the heirs of William Penn. The purchase was ratified by a local tribe of Indians shortly before the French and Indian War; and
WHEREAS, there was no attempt to develop the land until the Revolutionary War when men were promised parcels of land if they remained in the army; and
WHEREAS, named after an old English Duke, Emsworth Borough was sought after by families because of its scenic beauty and location near waterways; and
WHEREAS, today, Emsworth Borough covers 0.69 square miles and has a total population of 2,350; the Borough is famous for being the hometown of Astronaut Michael Fincke, formerly held the American record for the most times in space; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Tom Baker, do hereby congratulate and join in celebration with Emsworth Borough, as it celebrates 125 years since its incorporation. On behalf of Allegheny County Council, we wish the Borough residents, officials and businesses all the best and look forward to learning about, and participating in, the great things that the Borough will offer throughout its next 125 years.
