An Ordinance of the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, amending Division 1 of the Allegheny County Code of Ordinances, Article 1013, §5-1013.09, entitled "Standards of conduct," to include language that prohibits the Sheriff or Treasurer of Allegheny County from engaging in any political activity while holding office.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County's elected and chief appointed officials set the ethical tone and environment that will prevail in the County and as established in the Accountability, Conduct and Ethics Code of Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to create a mechanism by which the elected Sheriff and Treasurer of Allegheny County are prohibited to engage in any type of political activity, including soliciting campaign contributions from a covered person;
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1.
The Allegheny County Code of Ordinances, Division 1, entitled "Administrative Code," is hereby amended by adding a new subsection to §5-1013.09., O. "Political Activity," as follows:
§5-1013.09. Standards of conduct.
O. Political Activity.

(5) The Sheriff and Treasurer of Allegheny County are prohibited from engaging in any political activity while holding office, including but not limited to soliciting, directly or indirectly, campaign contributions on their own behalf or on behalf of other officeholders within the County.
SECTION 2. If any provision of this Ordinance shall be determined to be unlawful, invalid, void or unenforceable, then that provision shall be considered severable from the remaining provisions of this Ordinance which shall be in full force and effect.
