Proclamation recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Shadyside Academy Junior School.
Body
WHEREAS, the Shadyside Academy Junior School first opened its doors on Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside in 1909, approximately 100 years ago; and
WHEREAS, the Junior School expanded greatly in 1940 when it merged with the Arnold School. The new entity relocated to South Braddock Avenue in Pittsburgh's Point Breeze neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the school is still based in Point Breeze and enrolls over 200 students a year from grades pre-kindergarten through fifth; and
WHEREAS, the Junior School is based on a unique curriculum that nourishes each child's social development and focuses on each child's specific academic needs; and
WHEREAS, by encouraging children to grow personally in many different areas for such an extended span of time, the effects of the Junior School have undoubtedly been felt by our community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby honors the 100th anniversary of the Shadyside Academy Junior School. Furthermore, we hope the school continues to be an impressive educational entity for the children of our great community.
