Proclamation commending Pittsburgh Manchester K-8 for the success of their Students Against Violence Via Education Week.
Body
WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have school administrators and teachers who devote themselves to educating our youth about violence prevention; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Manchester PreK-8 of the Pittsburgh Public School District celebrated “Students Against Violence Via Education (S.A.A.V.E.)” Week from May 12- May 16, 2008; and
WHEREAS, students spent the week learning about violence prevention and participating in a number of activities geared towards demonstrating the positive role that young people can play within their communities; and
WHEREAS, the week was kicked off with “Shut the Door on Violence
activities, which involved students creating anti-violence slogans for their classrooms and decorating the classrooms to reflect the slogans; and
WHEREAS, the remainder of the week included “Parents Against Violence” petition signings, a Safety Zone Partnership meeting with Pittsburgh City Officials and Manchester School Officials, a Random Acts of Kindness campaign, and a game day; and
WHEREAS, each day of the week reflected a different theme, including “Kindness Counts,” “ Respect,” “Tolerance,” “Anger Management,” and “Conflict Resolution”;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends the students, teachers, and staff of Pittsburgh Manchester PreK-8 for their participation in S.A.A.V.E. Week. Your commitment to encouraging our youth to grow up to be peaceful and productive members of society is an inspiration to the Members of this Council, and to all the residents of Allegheny County.
