Proclamation celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department and recognizing their valuable contributions to the community.

 

Body

WHEREAS, chartered in April of 1926 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department was founded by a group of 13 men.  These founding members that have laid the foundation in creating what has become one of the most respected fire departments in Allegheny County; and

 

                     WHEREAS, on May 6, 2006, the Broughton VFD will celebrate its 80th anniversary at the Broughton Hall, 1030 Cochrans Mill Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and 

 

                     WHEREAS, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department is a non-profit, 100% volunteer and self-supporting organization.  They proudly share fire protection responsibilities in South Park Township with Library Volunteer Fire Department (Station 2-7-1); and   

 

                     WHEREAS, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department operates a utility car, a multi-use mobile command center vehicle, a rescue truck, a fire engine truck, and with the addition of a new fire truck arriving in April, they are one of the greatest community assets of South Park Township; 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and congratulates the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department on the occasion of their 80th Anniversary Celebration.  The citizenry of South Park Township and Allegheny County thank the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department for its dedication and unparalleled level of service and professionalism.  Furthermore, we commend the Department's selfless efforts and recognize their heroic deeds, which have earned the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County.
