An Ordinance of the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, authorizing the continued use of Allegheny County-owned real property in South Park by South Park Theatre, Inc. as venue for live theatrical productions.

Whereas Allegheny County is the owner of 2,013 acres of real property known as South Park (Allegheny County Real Estate Parcel 412-L-300), one of the County’s nine regional parks; and
Whereas, Since 1995, South Park Theatre, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) organization, has had exclusive use of the South Park Theatre, a venue consisting of three structures known as the Mainstage Building, Outdoor Children’s Stage, and a storage building on approximately 1.25 acres along Brownsville Road in the County’s South Park, and
Whereas, South Park Theatre, Inc., whose mission is to “provide quality, affordable theatre while encouraging participation and involvement in the arts”, offers a venue for live plays and musical productions for public enjoyment and educational purposes; and
Whereas, South Park Theatre, Inc. wishes to continue to use the South Park Theatre venue in the County’s South Park for the same purposes described herein, without interruption; and
Whereas, County Council believes that permitting South Park Theatre, Inc. to continue to use the designated structures in the County’s South Park for these activities will inure to the benefit of the citizens of Allegheny County; and
Whereas, Article IV, Section 2(k) of the Allegheny County Home Rule Charter vests County Council with the power and duty by ordinance to lease or permit the use of County real property.
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby enacts as follows:
SECTION 1. Incorporation of the Preamble.
The provisions set forth in the preamble to this Ordinance are incorporated by reference as set forth in their entirety herein.
