Proclamation recognizing and thanking Ms. Amanda Platt, a student at Shaler Area Intermediate School, for her fundraising efforts which helped the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office purchase several bulletproof police dog vests.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as 15 year-old Amanda Platt; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Platt, a student at Shaler Area Intermediate School, raised $5,000 to purchase bulletproof vests for four trained police dogs working for the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to helping the Sheriff's dogs, Amanda raised money for police dogs working in Ross Township and Franklin Park; and

 

WHEREAS, to raise the funds, Amanda asked classmates for small contributions and contacted businesses with fliers and letters requesting support; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to receiving the vests, these police dogs would often enter dangerous situations, such as felony arrest warrant cases, with no protection; and

 

WHEREAS, Amanda's next goal is to help purchase vests for the six Allegheny County Police dogs;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby commend and thank Ms. Amanda Platt for helping to protect the police dogs at the Allegheny County Sheriff's Department.  You have set a high standard of commitment and dedication which the youth of our great County of Allegheny may follow, and which serves as an inspiration to this Council and the citizens of Allegheny County.
