Proclamation declaring the week of October 13, 2014 as "Conflict Resolution Week" in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, Conflict Resolution Day, celebrated on the third Thursday in October, was created by the United States Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) to promote conflict resolution; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2005, the ACR Board of Directors adopted the following initiatives: 1) to promote awareness of mediation, arbitration, conciliation and other creative, peaceful means of resolving conflicts in schools, families, businesses, communities, governments and the legal system; 2) to recognize the significant contributions of peaceful conflict resolvers; and 3) to encourage celebrations by individuals and organizations around the world; and
 
WHEREAS, locally, the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania (MCWP) will celebrate Conflict Resolution Week by hosting a series of programs in the community and in the Federal Court to promote conflict resolution; and
 
WHEREAS, the MCWP, the only association of professional mediators in Western Pennsylvania, exists to promote the use of mediation and other collaborative processes for resolving disputes and managing conflict, and support the professional development of mediator practitioners;      
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby declare the week of October 13, 2014 as "Conflict Resolution Week" in Allegheny County.  FURTHERMORE, this Council expresses its thanks to the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania for its commitment and dedication to promoting conflict resolution.
