Proclamation declaring May 11-17, 2008 "Women's Health Week" in Allegheny County.

 

Body

WHEREAS, during the week of May 11-17, 2008, organizations and individuals across the United States celebrated “National Women's Health Week,” an initiative coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Women's Health Week focused on educating women about the simple steps that they can take to improve their physical and mental health and prevent disease; and

                     

WHEREAS, Women's Health Week, which kicked off on Mother's Day 2008,  was celebrated around the nation by health organizations, women's groups, businesses, social service agencies, local, state, and federal governments, media organizations, libraries, and schools; and

 

WHEREAS, the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) was one such organization, using their broad reach to communicate the importance of simple health screenings that every woman needs to have at various stages of her life, including blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, pap tests and HPV tests, mammograms, colonoscopies, and annual skin examinations;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby declares May 11-17, 2008 “Women's Health Week” in Allegheny County.  We join with the Coalition of Labor Union Women in encouraging women to educate themselves to improve their health and prevent disease, enabling them to live longer, healthier lives.
