Proclamation honoring the career of Ambassador Luis Gallegos and welcoming him to Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, the European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh invited the university's highly regarded School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences to organize a seminar to bring together experts on accessibility from Europe and the United States; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the seminar is to explore transatlantic perspectives on accessibility in connection with implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the seminar will explore the convention's emphasis on accessibility from a human rights perspective; and
WHEREAS, Ambassador Luis Gallegos of Ecuador, who was Chairman of the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on an International Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, played a critical role in the negotiations that led to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council and County Executive Dan Onorato welcome Ambassador Gallegos to our County, laud his international efforts to further disability awareness and commend his leadership within the disability community; his countless efforts are to be widely mirrored and highly regarded; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council and the County Executive hereby recognize the strenuous efforts, outstanding achievements and tireless dedication that Ambassador Luis Gallegos has exhibited throughout his career. His commitment to bettering the international community is a fine example of diplomacy that we should all strive to attain.
