Motion of the Council of Allegheny County establishing a joint Executive and Council Task Force to formulate a plan for City-County consolidation and to provide such plan upon completion to city officials for consideration.

                     WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh's financial plight has a direct impact on both city and suburban residents;

 

                     WHEREAS, Allegheny County has the ability to take the pro active lead to provide solutions that can assist in ensuring a better, more stable tax structure; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Council recognizes its fiduciary responsibility to the County as well as to the City of Pittsburgh regarding the economic risks created for the population in general, and the suburban residents of Allegheny County in particular.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS MOVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY, that a joint Executive and Council Task Force shall be established to formulate a plan for City-County consolidation, including recommendations for short term and long term options relating to services.  Said Task Force shall consist of five members selected by the Council President and personnel as deemed appropriate by the Executive.
