Proclamation celebrating the 100th anniversary of Riverview Baptist Church at its 1911 Soles Street location.

WHEREAS, for the past 100 years, Riverview Baptist Church has been serving the residents of the City of McKeesport, Pennsylvania from its home at 1911 Soles Street; and
WHEREAS, during 1881 and 1882, many Swedish immigrants arrived in McKeesport, and under the leadership of the Reverend Fred Edquist, organized a “Free Church,” which included many Baptist members; and
WHEREAS, on August 30, 1884, C.O. Leckman, A.F. Skager, and C. Lindahl led a meeting for those interested in founding a Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, upon the arrival of the Reverend O. Lindh from New York on September 6, 1884, the 17 charter members of the new church participated in a Bible reading, prayer and discussion at the home of C.A. Person along Jenny Lind Street; and
WHEREAS, after several years of changing locations, excavating began in 1906 and the Riverview Baptist Church was dedicated on April 12, 1908; and
WHEREAS, with its affiliation with the middle East Baptist Conference and the Baptist General Conference, Riverview Baptist continues to serve as a place of faith-based worship for the McKeesport community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with Riverview Baptist Church in celebrating your 100th anniversary at your 1911 Soles Street Location. Furthermore, we wish you continued success throughout your next 100 years of faith and service.
