body

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Pennsylvania Byways Initiative is to support local initiatives to enhance the visual impact of a route, maintain the natural resources and intrinsic qualities along the route and educate residents and visitors about the history and culture of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the Coal Hill Scenic Byway is recommended for nomination to establish part of a scenic wildlife watching and nature tourism corridor in the City of Pittsburgh's Emerald Link; and

WHEREAS, the establishment of Coal Hill as a Pennsylvania Byway would not only highlight the wonderful scenic and natural resources along the route, but also make the route eligible for funds to enhance several locations along the route for the enjoyment and safety of visitors.

Now, therefore, it is moved, and it is the Sense of the Council of Allegheny County, that we support the efforts of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), in partnership with the City of Pittsburgh and the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation, in nominating Grandview Avenue, McArdle Roadway, East Sycamore Street and portions of West Carson and East Carson Street near Station Square to be designated a Pennsylvania Byway, called the “Coal Hill Scenic Byway.”
