Proclamation commending Robert Larko for his extensive efforts in coordinating the Relay for Life Pittsburgh East event.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed to have leaders who demonstrate a commitment to making our region a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, since 2007, Robert Larko has been the Chairman of the Relay for Life of Pittsburgh East; and
WHEREAS, originally based out of Woodland Hills, the Relay for Life of Pittsburgh East has quadrupled in size under Mr. Larko's leadership; and
WHEREAS, in addition to coordinating and working with a dedicated committee of volunteers, Mr. Larko serves as a voice for the event, encouraging residents of the community, cancer survivors, new and former participants to support this worthwhile event; and
WHEREAS, the 2009 Relay for Life of Pittsburgh East kicked off on November 19, 2008 and will involve participants from Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, Plum, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood Borough, Forest Hills, Monroeville, North Braddock, Penn Hills, Rankin, Swissvale, Turtle Creek, Wilkins Township, and Wilkinsburg; and
WHEREAS, the Relay for Life of Pittsburgh East presents and opportunity to raise awareness and funds in a non-competitive community event where teams take turns walking or running around a track for 24 straight hours. While awaiting their turn on the track, teams camp out at the site and enjoy themselves in a carnival-like atmosphere with entertainment, food, and camaraderie;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Mr. Robert Larko for his many contributions and demonstrated leadership to the Relay for Life of Pittsburgh East. Furthermore, we wish you success as you embark on the 2009 event.
