Proclamation celebrating President William V. Day's 40th Anniversary with the St. Barnabas Health System.

WHEREAS, on October 5, 2007, Mr. William V. Day, President of St. Barnabas Health System, will be honored at a gala at the Duquesne Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to celebrate his 40 years of leadership; and

                     

WHEREAS, Mr. William V. Day arrived at the St. Barnabas Health System in 1967 as a consultant, a vulnerable time for the nursing home which at that time contained only 63 beds and was struggling financially and operationally; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Day had the foresight and perseverance required to save St. Barnabas from collapse, and today the original nursing home is licensed for 172 beds; and

 

WHEREAS, the health system today consists of two nursing homes, an assisted living facility, three retirement communities, an outpatient medical center, a theatre, and a charitable arm, and it is home to 900 inpatients and residents; and

 

WHEREAS, the St. Barnabas mission of servicing a patient regardless of their ability to pay remains today.  In 2006, St. Barnabas provided more than $5.84 million in free care;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby join family and friends in celebrating President William V. Day's 40th Anniversary with St. Barnabas Health System.  This Council recognizes Mr. Day for his dedication and commitment to serving a cause greater than self, and we commend his significant contributions to the St. Barnabas Health System and the community as a whole.
