Proclamation honoring the 160th anniversary of the First Congregational Church of Etna.

WHEREAS, part of a region of great faith, Allegheny County serves as the home to religious establishments that have for many years stood steadfastly as an enabler of faith in County residents; and
WHEREAS, the First Congregational Church of Etna is a diversified, self-governing and non-creedal Christian church that has existed in the town since 1849; and
WHEREAS, throughout the church's expansive history, it has helped the Etna community by contributing to the well-being of Etna flood victims, by establishing the Etna Senior Center and by promoting equal rights; and
WHEREAS, in these current difficult times when many small churches struggle, the First Congregational Church of Etna has attentively achieved its goal of increasing its population by actively revitalizing the community and instilling faith in residents; and
WHEREAS, on September 20, 2009, the church celebrates its impressive accomplishments, its 160th anniversary and its commitment to building the faith of the community while helping to rejuvenate Etna;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes the First Congressional Church of Etna's 160th anniversary. We commend the church's efforts to assist with the rebirth of Etna, not only in the physical sense but also in the spiritual aspect. We hope the church continues to thrive well into the future.
