WHEREAS, the American Printing House (APH) for the Blind, InSights 2014, is the 23rd Annual Juried Art Competition and Exhibition for artists who are visually impaired or blind; and
WHEREAS, international in scope, the APH Insights Art project reflects the American Printing House for the Blind's mission to promote the independence of blind persons by encouraging individuals to create original art; and
WHEREAS, around 500 entries are received each year and works are selected on the basis of originality of concept, expressive use of media, and artistic excellence; and
WHEREAS, on October 17, 2014, in Louisville, Kentucky, Michael Delehanty, a 14 year-old, ninth-grader from Whitehall, was awarded first place for his self-portrait in APH Insights 2014;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Michael Delehanty for earning first place for his self-portrait in the American Printing House for the Blind, InSights 2014.
