Body

WHEREAS, on February 16, 1932,  during the Great Depression, a group of ten citizens founded a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to serving the community's interests; and

WHEREAS, that meeting created what has become the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. It has endured, prospered and grown over these 75 years, to date protecting more than 216,000 acres of land and restoring 500 miles of streams. It has founded six state parks, serves as the steward of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece, Fallingwater; and has created 98 community gardens in Allegheny County alone; and

WHEREAS, the Conservancy has recently relocated to its new headquarters on Washington's Landing at 800 Waterfront Drive, a new home for a new century; and

                     WHEREAS, the Conservancy continues to exhibit its steadfast dedication to its stated mission: “caring for water, land, and life in Western Pennsylvania”;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby join in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  We are pleased to recognize the rich heritage of the Conservancy and wish the many volunteers, members, and, employees of the Conservancy success in the continuation of their outstanding contributions to many communities and all the citizens of Western Pennsylvania.
